2009’s Weekend That Went to the Dogs

February 17th, 2009

Textfeld: Get ready again, Grand Bahama! Tails are wagging, potcakes are howling and potcats are purring louder than ever in anticipation of the most fantastic, exciting weekend of the year! The Humane Society of Grand Bahama and all our fur babies are proud to present the third Weekend That Went to the Dogs March 6th – 8th, 2009.
At the Pink Poodle Ladies Lunch Friday, March 6th, while away a spring afternoon with fine food by Freeport’s own Guest Chef Michael Higgs in the luxurious garden of the Boathouse, and enjoy the jazz sounds of Joe Fox and The Good Ole Boys. Wear pink! The lunch includes a select group of items for the “Petit Pink Silent Auction”. Space is limited for this exclusive event, and tickets will go fast, $100 per person. Ladies only!

Join the fun of Animal House Saturday, March 7th, at the GB Yacht Club; dance the night away and howl to the moon if you like to the timeless rock and roll of This, That and the Other, a prominent “Good Time Party Band” hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, back by popular demand for the third year, and with a new addition to the group, a recent top 40 artist! Great food, cash bar, and many Silent Auction items, including fantastic trips, artwork, furniture, jewelry, and of course some choice items for your four-legged family members! Attire is casual and tickets are $50 per person. Don’t miss this premiere Rock and Roll Party!

The grand finale of the weekend is the ever popular 24th Annual Pet Show, Sunday afternoon, March 8th. Show off your prize pooches and enjoy the amazing display of dogs and proud owners! Who will win the coveted title of Best In Show? Enjoy good eats and drinks while kids are entertained all day with pony rides, games and face painting. Admission at the gate is $5 for adults and kids get in free! Puppies must be at least four months old. All dogs must be on leash and under control at all times. It may be hard to get your dogs to Westminster but they can be winners right here at home! Your vets and the Humane Society will have a list of the various groups and categories your dogs can enter. Your dogs don’t have to be pure-bred; potcakes and mixed breeds are also welcome and equally valued!

The Weekend That Went to the Dogs will again be an exciting, fun filled weekend, which past attendees can attest to. All proceeds will go directly to animal care for the many formerly abused, neglected and abandoned dogs and cats at the HSGB’s new Animal Welfare and Adoption Centre.
